Case Walk and Talk Question

I have found a Case Med Trapper that I fancy. Should I be able to expect a similar snap as my Victorinox Hiker? It would be my first Case purchase so I'm
just fishing for information on their quality standards. BTW the bone on it is what caught my eye, it is beautiful.

I can't say if it will be the same as your Vic , because I don't know how that one is.
Case had a period where their quality was really hit and miss. However, according to folks that have current production knives, they have really stepped up the quality.

As far as the walk and talk, that will vary somewhat from knife to knife. I'm not certain if you like knives that open and close fairly easily, or ones that are real nail breakers. Out of all the Case knives I have owned, only one is a true nail breaker...

I can say, I have owned quite a few mini trappers. Mostly older versions, but a few newer ones too, and the walk and talk on the m/t's usually seems to be good. I don't know if its because they have half stops or not.

It is one of my favorite patterns. It feels bigger than it is, and it pockets very nicely.

I don't think you will be disappointed

Are you asking if 1 trapper has the same spring tension as the next? No
I don't know to much about SAK's but I would guess that the spring tension is not all the same there either.

Walk and talk is different on all knives. Saks are all made to the same specs. I'm sure their quality control such as machine setup on pin peening is closely watched. Their tolerances are very tight unlike the more hand finished traditionals made here. Any case I've owned walks and talks just fine.

All of my CASE knives W&T very well except one which is a little 'soft' but still very acceptable. All this is very subjective, some people hate a nail breaker and FEAR the bear trap snap, others demand it. If you can handle the knife before buying, so much the better but I don't think you'll be left feeling short changed.

Navihawk's observation about SAK tolerances is very true.

Thanks William. The rivet I'm not sure on Sacs if it is one pice or a two pice that is splined. Either way the rivet machine, whatever type is dead on accurate.

just for the record, the correct technical term for ultimate tight tolerance is "dead nuts".

I've only owned a couple of Case knives. All were of recent vintage. I have been been very happy with the spring tension and find it similar to that of the SAKs I have owned over the years. The SAKs haven't varied in spring tension between the current ones that I own and those in my memory from 30 years ago (and all the ones in between).

I have some of each and they are similar. As mentioned, the SAK is very consistent in all ways. The hand finishing on others like Case and others can cause a variance. I have collected other knives from S & M, GEC, Schrade OT, vintage Marbles, etc and the little variations give each one character. I don't mind.
