So I have this little whittling knife that I got about 10 years ago that is made by Case that is just a folder with a plastic handle with a sheepsfoot blade 4" closed, 6" open. I use it all the time and really want to try to get one or two more(this one only cost me $6 when I got it new) but I cant seem to find it anywhere. Any Idea as to why that is? discontinued maybe? if so that sucks! and does anybody know of anything comparable out there?
Thanks for any info,
Brian

I don't recall that pattern based on your description. 4" closed and 6" open seems odd. Photos would be very helpful.

In the meantime, check to see if there is a pattern number on the tang. (the area at the end of the blade near the pivot) If there is you could try doing a google search for "Case 3147" or whatever the pattern number is.

yeah no the only thing it says on the tang is case xx usa 54 w. Google is giving me nothing. I ordered it from smokey mountain knife works its just a simple slip joint with the two plastic(maybe g10) scales and one sheepsfoot held together by 3 brass rivets. Its a bummer that i cant find it because its an awesome little knife especially for how little i paid for it.
thanks

weird, isnt the 54 a trapper, i couldnt find anything on what the op is describing
gene

PS picts of your knife would help greatly

my camera is busted but i found what is essentially the same model only the one I found is done with stag scales and nickle bolsters and its supposed to be some rare prototype(http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_store/item981-36576.html). Mine however is just two black plastic scales with no liners the blade is exactly the same though the 3 dot lightening s mark on the tang and the single sheepsfoot.
IVANKERLY: I think the 54 has to do with the handle because its the same size and shape as my case trappers.
thanks

I remember someone posting a picture of a couple of knives like that (folders with long handles and a single, short sheepsfoot blade) but I can't find it now. I don't think either was a Case, though.

yablanowitz: I think I saw those when I was searching through an image search, im pretty sure they were schrades.

man I cant believe nobody knows about this thing I swear it couldnt have been more than 10 years ago that I ordered it out of the catalog. oh well.
thanks
Brian

It sounds like it was probably a Special Factory Order that SMKW had made for them. Trapper handle with a medium stockman sheepsfoot blade would make a nice whittling knife, but too many people whine when the handle is that much longer than the blade, since apparently they just buy knives to look at, and the blade to handle ratio offends them.

Hmm well theres no SMKW markings on it anywhere and I feel like I remember it being in the Case section of the catalog and the more I think about it the more I think it might have even said they discontinuing this model... I dont know it was awhile ago:confused:

Well I found one small fuzzy picture on google with what looked like the same knife in it but no info attached I guess its a stumper.
Thanks anyway,
Brian

If it is stamped as you say we know it was made between 1965-70. 54 is the pattern and W most likely stands for walnut for the handle material.

Well the thing is that I got it brand new 10 years ago and it has a plastic handle and the only other Case that ive found like it has a stag handle but the same markings on the blade(link above). Nobody remembers this one? well then I guess I need to find my fiancees camera and bring on the pics.

I just bought one yoday, but cant upload the picture to show.
Just Wondering how much it might be worth.
