Proud daddy of a 2 tear old girl here. The little one has shown an amazing interest in tools: Drill presses, vises, c-clamps, screwdrivers, wrenches and knives!

Im looking at the Case wooden knives as maybe a toy. Im not sure if these are meant as collector items, or if these can stand up to the abuse of a 2 year old.

Plus, do they actually cut? Probably (hopefully) not? Does Case warranty these to breakage (I'd assume not! lol.) ?

I just saw one of the wooden trappers on the knife shop with the big blue roofs web site. I would wait until she's probably 5 or 6, the point on the clip and spey blades look like it might take an eye out even under supervised play. Two is definitely way too young. Something like this, and the blunted/dulled Victorinox SAKs might be something to look at. I've seen the SAK at Target.

Those are pretty cool. But, as mentioned above, the 'sharp stick in the eye' possibility seems too risky with a 2-year-old. Toddlers fall down a lot, and doing so while running or playing with a 'sharp stick' makes me cringe at the thought. I don't think a 2-year-old would understand the 'danger' of even simulating stabbing at something with a 'fake' knife; it'll still hurt somebody.

At the moment, I'm thinking of all the vids I've seen on America's Funniest Videos, of toddlers 'accidentally' whacking Mommy or Daddy with plastic bats, or toy golf clubs, or just reflexively punching them in the nose, eye or 'Daddy's family jewels', just because it's an easy and funny target. ;)

I've got a 2 year old son and plan to get him a Klein swiss army knife toy. Besides the points on a wood knife I think he would break it in about 10 minutes.

For now I let him use the bottle opener/screwdriver on my pioneer under close supervision and he loves it.

This is the cautionary statement in the product description on Amazon's listing for one of these knives:

"Complete working knife! Kits contains small parts, not suitable for small children. Adult supervision is required. For ages 7 and up."

Seems about right. :)
