Hello, ive been collecting mint to near mint pocket knives for about 4 years now and have acquired about 100 knives mostly Case XX. I bid on and received a grey/ almost black etching scroll on a 5347 HP SSP STAG Case XX pocket knife. My question is why isn't this a red scroll wit two dots instead of a dark grey almost black etching but a 2 dot. The knife is original the only flaw is with the Case XX USA stamping at the base of the blade. The Case seems to have been buffed or gouged out but below it's cleare to see the stainless with only 2 dots. Could this have been a mistake or possibly a knive made specifically for someone? I can't find another on line or in my books. Any help would be appreciated.
Kind regards
Gene

might ask to move this thread in the traditional knife forum....bunch of case collectors in there. maybe faster responses is my thought.

It's really hard to say without seeing pictures. You said it appears to have been buffed, so that might explain why it is not red scroll ...... the red might have been removed by buffing, leaving the grey or black. It is not likely that it was made specifically for a single person. To my knowledge, Case doesn't take special orders like that. 😊
