Reading the recent thread regarding smelly knives and leather made me realize I hadn't looked at this one in a long time. Fortunately, it appears to have fared the storage period well. I got it a pawn shop for a $20.
The sheath is not original but fits the knife very well. I think it's from the 1960s but I don't know anything about Case knives. I'd like to clean it up and make sure it last. It's a little dirty, there are some gaps at the pommel and guard and the pommel looks a little crooked.
I've read neatsfoot oil, paste wax, Sno-Seal, beeswax, Obenhauf's conditioner, et al are suitable choices for these stacked leather handles. I've used Sno-Seal on hiking boots and Obenhauf's and Bickmore on my other boots.
What do you guys think of the knife? Are there people who would take this knife in and do the cleaning and preservation the right way if I go that route?
