Case XX knife pattern handle ID. Information needed

I was looking through some of my Case XX fixed blades and noticed that a Small Slab Side Case fixed blade has the pattern # 578 3 1/2 SS. The handle is a laminated wood but when I looked up the 578 pattern # it said the handle would be Stag. I did some more research and this time the 5 was said to mean possible wood handle as well as stag. The handle looks original to the knife. I would appreciate any information that would help determine what exactly might be going on.Thanks
