I've got 2 Case XX folders without shields, a Tiny Toothpick with abalone & a Small Stockman with mother of pearl. What determines whether or not it has a shield and is there a name for these models? I suspect it has something to do with the cover is made from. Anyway, I see them here and there offered by various sellers, but have no idea how to search for them specifically.

Really just model numbers and generic pattern names.
Not sure what determines whether a knife has a shield, but I know MOP is a relatively fragile material that can even be problematic to pin let alone put a shield in.
