What are your thoughts on these? I've searched and only found a few older threads. Do they measure up to the better slip joints currently available, like GEC, Canal Street or Queen. I am considering their medium stockman or the canoe pattern. Thanks.

Hi,

I had a red pocket-worn Butterbean for a while. I gave it to a friend. It was well made, certainly up to normal Case standards. But I don't think I would put the fit and finish of that particular knife against my GEC #25 or my Queen Whittler.

If you like the looks of the pocket-worn line, by all means get it. They are good knives, as are all Case models.

If you see a pocket worn model that you like, you can rest assured that the knife will be up to Case's regular production standards. It will be possible to get a knife with some sort of quality problem, but no more or less so than any of the other regular Case production items. So, again, if you see something that strikes your fancy, go ahead and purchase it. The pocket worn scales are just buffed to smooth out the edges of the jigging, but there is nothing else different in a pocket worn knife. Same quality materials, same fit and finish. If you like the look and feel of the pocket worn finish, you will be satisfied with the knife.

I think they are kind of neat, but I would say your money would be better spent on a GEC or Queen.

I have a couple (Mini-Trapper & Tiny Stockman). They are as nice as any Case -barring any model associated with Tony Bose, which is a cut above.

I was never fond of the pocket worn series. To me, they just weren't the same as a knife with honest wear from some serious pocket time and use

You know, I am with you on that. My old knives that have a lot of wear had every scratch, dent, cut, scrape, stain, nick, rubbed down surface and all the other signs of wear put there by me.

Those knives have earned a place in my pocket, and they are like old friends. I actually get a lot of pleasure out of cleaning them up, putting on a fresh edge, a dot of oil, and putting them in my pocket.

I guess this "pocket worn" style is the speedy way to make your knives look like users so you won't look like a noob.

I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone wouldn't want to use the knives until they earn that look.

To each his own I guess. I am sure the quality is right up there since it is a CASE.

I was considering the pocket worn series not for the worn scales, but was hoping for a slipjoint that was de-horned. I have several knives from GEC and other slipjoints that are great quality, but I would prefer all the sharp points be buffed off, particularly at the end of the spine where the blade makes contact with the spring when open. I actually would like the jigging to be sharp. If the pocket worn series only has the jigging buffed, but leaves the rest of the corners sharp, this isn't for me. Thanks.

Case tumbles their blades so the spine corners are smooth as well as everything else. I prefer the old way where the spine is sharp. I usually take a diamond file and just break the edges. To me, tumbled blades make the swedges less "crisp", and I like a nice sharp looking swedge.

I can't tell you how they stack up against other makers as I've got nearly all Case knives in my collection, but the medium Stockman and the Peanut I have in the Pocket Worn series are among my favorites. They feel great in the hand from the word go and at my age I might not have time to break them in ;):)

The Pocket worn Mini Copperlock I have is a very nice knife indeed, not so much for the worn aspcet but because it's a decent dark red colour, a rare tint these days......

I've only had one "pocket-worn" Case knife, a harvest orange peanut that I got about three years ago. Here's a photo I took recently:

Upon opening the box, it just seemed to me that someone at Case HQ took a bit more time buffing the handle. I actually appreciated that extra TLC - and sort of wonder why they couldn't do this with all their knives. I assure you the knife didn't look beat up or used in any way. I reckon they chose an unfortunate name for this line.

I've got a Swayback Jack in Pocket-Worn series, and I like it!!
The F/F is pretty nice! and not much different than my other SBJ
in Chestnut, But the Chestnut has CV blades and the Pocket-Worn series
doesn't have CV! To me that's the only thing I don't like!
But it's a great Knife! If you see one you like you should buy it!

I own a few of the Pocketworn knives, but my favorite of the bunch is a redbone canoe. It came razor sharp, has really nice fit/finish, and perfect walk/talk. Another one of my faves is the redbone stockman. With some of Case's knives, I find the out-of-box sharpness varies. I had to really work to get my Pocketworn peanut to have good sharpness.
