My father in law recently passed away and left us, in addition to a wonderful Case knife collection, an early Case XX 1980s store display case. My wife and I are keeping the knives for the grandkids (sorry, they're not for sale) but we have no need for the display case. Is there a market for these kind of large display cases at all?

Sure there is. People who are trying to put together exactly what your FIL spent much time and effort doing. It would be a crime to pull that apart and get rid of that beautiful display. That makes the collection IMO.

The case probably doubles the value of the collection while it's all together. By itself it's worth maybe 20% the value of the knives.

With all those knives I would keep it. The value is in it all staying together.

Is there a market for it? Sure there is. You could sell it within this site, probably within a few hours.

I would keep the display and the knives mint. If you have no use for such, I would sell it as is. Nothing wrong with giving kids knives as far as I'm concerned, but this Case display is special.

Keep your Dad's efforts intact! It probably took a lot of time and effort to get all that together.

It would be a major shame to dismantle a finely stocked display like that...that your father in law likely spent quite some time putting together if he didn't buy it intact. Either way the knives should remain with and in the cabinet unused. Worth a bit of a pretty penny that way.

I have one very similar to this one from 1983. All knives are in display have keys to drawers etc. This case belonged to my late step father along with an extensive knife collection mostly Case. Curious about what approximate value of the display case complete with knives.

Knives in display case are all Case knives that we're originally in display. Just wanted to clarify. He also had an extensive collection besides the display.
