Hello All:

First of all, I have to ask, why is there no forum on hear specifically for Case knives under manufactures? Oh well.

Anyways, I have been looking for a new knife that I can carry around at work. Do to working in an office where I am required to wear business casual, I have decided to get the Case toothpick. I think this little knife will be great because I need it to disappear into my pocket and not be seen. Also, I have been in the market for a "gentleman's folder" that is built strong but screams "Classy!". I have been moving back to traditional slip joint pocket knives. I own a kershaw skyline and a spyderco delica 4 as well as a case medium stockman.....i find myself most of the time reaching for that old case knife. I blame it on my dad for always saying that cases are the best knives. Anyways the question I have is about blade material. To be honest, this knife will get used the most as it will be on my person no less than 9 hours a day 5 days a week. I think most people say that cases are the best because of the Chrome Vanadium that is used. However, this is a very small blade and was wondering if the stainless steel may be better. Would someone please point me in the right direction here? I like the stainless steel because of the rust resistance, strength, but MOSTLY because of the color of the grips that is available, I would like this knife with a black grip. However, If CV is much better than I will just get the yellow old fashion grip and go with the "traditional" look. I know that the CV sharpens up better but is it a softer metal? With this knife being so small and thin I want to make sure I get the right blade. Thanks all!

There isn't a Case manufacturer forum because it falls under the Traditional forum, where your post will get much more attention!

A tiny toothpick was my first Case knife. I got the CV steel because I like that it takes a patina with use and age. However, in such a small knife you won't find much of a difference in performance between the CV (which is something like 1080 carbon steel) and their "Tru-Sharp" stainless (which is something like 420HC.)

In my personal experience, the CV sharpens to a finer edge a bit easier and might hold it a little bit longer.

Thanks for the input, Ill move this thread to "Traditional" section.
