In researching this Case folder I have come up with things I believe to be accurate. Please help me figure out what I need to correct here. Any other comments would be greatly appreciated. Pictures included.

Measures approx. 5 1/2" Closed
Tang reads CASE XX on front and C61050SAB. Markings date knife between 1940-1964.
The handles are jigged red bone.
The shield and bolsters are nickel silver with brass pins and liners.

It is part of an extensive collection I have inherited. Most of the knives are in excellent to mint condition. This one has some scuffing along the edge of the blade but appears to have retained a mirror finish. The edge of the blade is razor sharp with no obvious wear or tear. I'm not sure how to classify its current condition. Any thoughts?

Post this in the Traditional forum those guys will steer ya in the right path....opps sorry forgot what forum I was in lol

That's a very fine knife:thumbup: I'm no expert on the model but I Believe That it was made pre 1970 from the tang stamp. It doesn't look like it has any dots. I believe Case added the dots in 1970. Of course I could be wrong but I thought I remembered reading about that some time ago.

EDIT: Oops! Guess I should have read the entire post more carefully:o

driftless,

I think you have all of your information correct. It looks to be in pretty good condition to me.

Judging only by your pictures, I would classify it's current condition as "very good" using the scale below.

Mint
Near Mint
Excellent
Very Good
Good
Fair
Poor

It is a great looking knife.

This knife is in fact a 1940-1964 vintage, as indicated by the 'CASE' above the 'XX'. Knives marked this way are also known as 'XX era' knives.

The knife does look at least 'very good' to me also. The only thing I can't be sure of, is the condition of the edge itself. Can't see in the pictures if it's ever been sharpened (beyond the factory sharpening), or if there's any significant blade loss due to re-sharpening (usually more evident near the tip). The scuff marks might be a clue to at least some light sharpening. I'd also take a very close (magnified) look at the bone near the pins, to see if there are any hairline cracks. Those are pretty commonly seen on older bone-scaled knives.
