Casswell finish ?

Can anyone explain what the Casweell finish Daniel Winkler uses on some of his knives. I have Googled it and I find Caswell metal finish company. Wondering what product it is exactly, supossedly is a rust preventer. Coating on his blades do not look like oxide or blueing.
 
I cant explain it but boy just landed two of them and as is typical with D.Winkler .. I love them... seemed like any winkler was so hard to find but have seen a recent surge in availability...
added four more to my collection.... there are a lot of great knife makers out there but Dan Winkler is the "man" as far as i'm concerned
