Found a cast iron skillet for $2 at a yard sale. Has ridge around the bottom an. 8 on one side of the bottom and a Y on the other. Any ideas as to brand type?
Thanks.
Gonna need to see pictures both mid range and close ups of marks a pan and an overall top n bottom of pan to get you close on make/model. # 8 represents the size and this is the most common size and good all around size pan at 10 1/2" usually. Most likely the Y is the mold makers mark but that is a shot in the dark until we can see it. Both really old Lodge and Red Mountain had pans sorta configured like that.
The key is - is the pan not wrapped or cracked? Is it still well seasoned? And was lead ever cast out of it at one time???
Still not good enough. Need to to see handle both sides. Lips of skillet etc. Regardless my best guess is 1930's Lodge. They had raised heat ring, 3/4" number depicting size at 12:00 and a raised mold makers mark at 6:00. Enjoy it!
Highly unlikely as this pan does not have any Griswold unique style lettering. And until one can clearly see both handle sides closer up one cannot make a real determination.
