Casting for forged in fire season 2

The question can you weld yes / no

It's ambiguous, I presume they mean forge weld ie Damascus / pattern welded but it's not specific.

I think it is pretty straight forward question "can you weld" considering there is welding involved in the show.

It will be interesting to see how much they change format, now that people know what to prepare for. Season one had no idea what to expect., so without the element of surprise how do they keep it fair to season one?

I think some who wouldn't have tried out before will now...and some who were interested in it originally will just watch.

I think I am in the second group. ( Certainly until the hand heals more).

forge weld, mig weld, tig weld, stick weld...

Not necessarily the same answer in every case, could be more specific.

It could be. I could answer yes to this and be sure that It was the correct answer to any context that you mentioned.

I am also sure that I am not the only person here who could do so.

Sure but if you answer "No" on that question you just saved them from asking a lot of other questions

I am sure they are mainly referring to welding damascus and similar billets.

They seem to have TIG and/or MIG , Stick ( I think I saw a stick welder), and several types of forge welding involved, so I would say that welding ability in the knifemaking tasks of the show should involve some or all those. You might get by with a back yard wire welder to put a rebar handle on a billet, but good forge welding skills would be a very necessary talent to make a flawless billet in an hour.

The welding thing (stick, gas or forge) is a totally fair question. It's already been shown to be required in the first season. It looks cool on TV and it's necessary if you want to do any kind of laminate/pattern/damascus.

I can't weld my way out of a wet paper bag, so don't worry about seeing me on Season 2. But I look forward to watching it :)

Do you think they'd let me use someone else's shop if I entered and made it to round 2? I have no desire to have them in my back closet where I do my grinding, surrounded by pallets of firebricks and forges. Wait, five days isn't enough time to order in whatever steel you would need.

I'm confident I would do well in round 1 and miserable in round 2.

Did anyone notice that "Armourers" was listed this time? Perhaps they will have an episode where a non-weapon is made.

I noticed that too. It would be pretty cool to see a round where several armorers had to make a helmet or a breastplate and it would have to survive some weapon tests. In fact, destruction tests for armor were, and still are common.

I don't see why they wouldn't. Didn't Mace leave his shop for his "other" shop to heat treat his sword? I can only assume this was the school shop.
