Casting my first bronze sword

Hey all, new member here! So ive been a collector of firearms all the way from muskets to WW2, but ive recently taken a liking to swords. I found a nice 3D of a sword i like (Spoiler: Its the sword of Achilles from Troy, 2004). Everything looks pretty straight forward. I will be looking for a good sized crucible today, maybe 2KG? I will be building the cope and drag in a bit...and the furnace once I get the crucible.

Their are alot of tutorials for this on youtube so i dont really need any specific instructions (outside of tips), but my main reason for commenting is i dont know what to do once the blade is cast. Are these quenched, tempered, hardened, etc? Im guessing its a time sensitive situation once the blade is made, so i need a plan. Outside of the grinding, polishing, etc...how do i make this blade as strong as it can be?

For simplicity sake i will be casting the handle as one piece with the blade. From my understanding, that is pretty common back in the bronze age. Is this the easy, non proper way of going about it in terms of weight distribution and balance? If so, how would you guys make this particular handle?

Anyways, im really excited for this project. Im sure it will take time to get good at this, but thats the fun!

I pasted a link for the image from imgur, hopefully it worked

Hey, that sounds like a really fun project! Bronze can't be hardened like steel, but it can be work hardened.

There are some YouTube videos of folks doing the process... Basically you hammer the edge sharp.

Your pic didn't show up, but if you are using imgr, I probably know what you did wrong.
From the app, when you click on the image, your not really looking at the image, youre looking at the loading page door the image.
Click on the image again, and it'll take you to a full screen of the image. Share that link, and it should work.

Thanks for your reply. Question, would you advise I do propane with my homemade furnace? It’s probably the best way to do it, but lump charcoal and a normal blower might be good enough.

lastly, do you have a place in mind you like that I can order either tin & copper or bronze. I live in Dallas if theirs places around that I can get it locally. Don’t really know where I’d do

Here's your image...

I really don't have any ideas where to buy raw materials, sorry.

Dallas is a big place though, I'm sure you can find metals somewhere.

Oh and yes, you can totally make a furnace that will melt bronze with propane.

You can buy tin on Amazon and there are companies that sell raw materials for smelting. @JTknives has been making silicon bronze. Perhaps you could purchase some from him.

No clue on any help but this is kinda interesting. I've cast some small bronze pieces before but nothing on this scale. Subbing for updates
