Casual comparison of old and new versions of the Swisschamp

Bought two new Swisschamps, one for myself, and another for a future gift. I’d been using my older version Swisschamp for years and wanted to get a new version with the new magnifying glass and file. Both versions are great, but I do like the new versions more because the magnifying glass and file both work better. The magnifying glass is very clear, not distorted, and easy to read small print with. The file is more aggressive in removing material. As for the slightly shortly inline Phillips driver on the newer versions, I’ve been using the one on my Explorer for a few years now, and haven’t had a single instance where the shorter length made any difference in functionality. Highly recommend the Swisschamp in general, but if I were to choose between old and new, I’d pick the new. I am glad to say they all have the same great fit and finish.

Quick google search regarding magnifying glass:
‘The magnifying glass on the Victorinox Swiss Champ and Swisscard models has changed over the years, with some versions using glass lenses and others using plastic lenses. The earliest versions (1973-2003) used a glass lens, while later versions (2004-2011) used a plastic lens. The current version (2012 onward) again uses a glass lens, according to Amazon.com customer Q&A.’

There were complaints about the durability of the new magnifying glass design, as it could turn into a bubble blower.

Personally I had no issues with any of my multiple (old and new design) swisschamps.
This model has been an edc for me for years.
Horizontal pouch on my belt, always there when needed.

And I agree, the file is an improvement over the previous model.
