Recommendation? Casual, Pocket-happy Work Vest

I'm looking for a vest with a reasonable amount of pockets that is really light-weight, somewhere between a light canvas and mesh though either of those may work, for summer use. The weight of the vest isn't as much of a concern as is the breath-ability of the garment, I don't insulation, I just want it to carry my stuff.

Minimally, it needs hand warmer pockets and a chest pocket but more isn't gonna hurt. I'm not looking for something tactical or like I'm going hunting but something more for carrying around my EDC stuff: pen, pocket book/notepad, knife, phone, wallet, keys, multitool. I will eventually add a handgun to that but need to finally get a CPL first.

I got used to having my winter jacket to carry around a lot of my gear and then an insulated vest throughout the spring but doing some work inside over the weekend has me wanting something more breathable.

For a reference of pocket layout, this is the carhartt jacket I have for winter that I've pretty much fallen in love with.

I don't have one, but you might look at craghoppers. I have some of their pants and shirts and have been very pleased with the quality. Other than that for a straight up gear-hauler, might look at a scottevest vest, they sure seem to do pockets with a vengeance.

I noticed the scottevest and is probably the best option if I want to spend a little more than I want but I can spend that much if there's nothing better or near it for less. Good quality gear generally means it will be around for a few decades. It looked like the traveler was the best candidate but it seems to be discontinued.

Thanks for the heads up on the craghoppers, looks to be a few nice options there.

I think my current cheap option is a columbia sliver ridge vest.

My fishing vest has 22 pockets averaging 3 items/pocket. I told people that if I had one more pocket, I could run away from home. My wife overheard the comment and said, "I'll sew an extra pocket on your vest." Bluff called!

Also, photographers vests usually have a lot of pockets and B & H always has a good selection.
