Caswell Finish - does the smell go away?

Wasn’t really sure if I should put this in the general or tomahawk area, but I’m starting here because I believe Winkler used or still uses caswell finishing. I’ve been picking up some Wenger hawks and blades, and I love them, but the smell of the caswell finishing is a bit much. Can’t seem to find much information on whether it goes away, or if anyone has had success with anything that might lessen or eliminate the smell.
