So my wife told me to figure out what I wanted for fathers day. Want a new knife, but I know its not in our budget to get something real expensive. In your use and experience, is the Cat G-10 worth it? Been wanting something smaller in G-10. Not thrilled about liner locks but I don't hate them either. Sell me on it if your a fan of the design

The Cat G-10 is a good knife at the $40-$50 price point - The fit and finish is very hit and miss, though, so don't expect Taichung or Golden quality (the Cat is made in Taiwan but not at the Taichung factory).

I bought one at retail for ~$65 (I spent too much) so that I could inspect all the ones they had in stock (3) and pick the best one. Even the 'best one' they had in stock wasn't great in the fit and finish department.

The steel has been fine - no complaints.

It is a good design but it has its flaws.

Great knife for EDC. Feels good in the hand, opens like butter, deep carry clip, not too spendy. Get one.

It's a nice knife. For me, personally, it's not the best in that price range, but it's good little blade and if it speaks to you get it.

I have two of them, I like the Cat G10, but after getting a Dragonfly 2, I would spend a few dollars more and get the Dragonfly.

I bought the Cat as an inexpensive non-mainland Chinese made knife to carry on trips so I would not have to worry about loss. As it turns out, it is one of my favorite Spydercos. The F&F on mine was better than my Chaparral! The black G10 is perfect, the size and blade are perfect. I cannot say enough good things about this knife. It is better than some of my more expensive knives and I am pretty vocal about this. The actual cutting edge is the same as the Chaparral and I can buy 2.5 Cats for one CF Chaparral. They are overall the same size. I took the clip off mine and carry it in my pocket.

I own 6 Dragonflies, but they are small enough that as hands get stiff with the cold or age they are harder to manipulate with one hand. The Cat is just barely enough larger that is not a problem. It is also easier to do some types of hard cutting because of this, too.

Now, if only Spyderco would bring this knife home to the USA, put S110V steel in it and a compression lock it would be the ultimate pocket knife.

This was my first Spyderco knife, and still a favorite of mine. Easy to pocket, plenty of blade for light tasks.

Already have two Df2 a vg0 and a Salt. Want a small g10 knife with hour having to spend what a df2 g10 would cost

then the Cat G10 is the way to go,
I also have an Ambitious and a Chicago but I do like the Cat the best

Not a huge fan of my Cat G10 (was just thinking about getting rid of it actually). I've found that the detent is in a strange position relative to the end of the lockbar that makes it hard to flick out. To me it's like a cross between an Ambitious and a Dragonfly 2, but I don't like it as much as either one.

EDIT: Just saw that you already have a Dragonfly, so I guess I'll add more comparisons to the Ambitious. The G10 on the Cat is a little grippier and a little nicer, but the Ambitious has jimping on the spine and lockbar that the Cat doesn't, which I prefer. Also, while the Cat has a nicer blade steel, I think the Ambitious has thicker stock, so it feels a little more substantial.

Hello all, first post in the forum but not new to the site. The Cat was also one of my first Spiderco knives and would have no reservations in saying that it is a very good edc. The Cats 440c is decent steel and fit and finish are very respectable.
Another option in that price range is the new Byrd Crow 2, just picked one up and am quite impressed.

My first Cat was the only Spyderco I've bought that had a defect. Spyderco replaced it and the replacement knife has been solid. I like the Dragonfly better but the Cat is a good choice.

Bought a CAT then 2 D-Flys.. Sold the D-Flys and kept the CAT!! Enough said!! John

Have a Cat coming. Sure it will be nice. Sure I'll like it more than the DF FRN I had. Maybe not a Delica though.

My cat came with very late lockup and a little lock-rock. The design is great, but mine was not executed well. WMMV

Return it to Spyderco. They will make it right.
It is too bad you have not done this already. This is a great knife for the pocket.
