I can get some Catalina ironwood burl. I never heard of anyone using it. There is not much information about it on internet.
Does anyone know if it's stable or needs to be stabilized?
There are two types of wood called IRONWOOD. One is the Desert Ironwood that we love as handles. The other is a tree used in ship building and other uses. It is good wood, just not the same. Since you said it was Ironwood burl,it could be either. Show us some photos.

Lyonothamnus floribundus asplenifolius is an evergreen in the Rose family.
It is a heavy wood with a specific gravity of .80.
I have not found any use for it mentioned other than as a decorative tree. It's fairly rare.
I think I've seen a version in the hills east of here.
Might be interesting in a burl.
Let us know how it goes.
There are many type of wood called Ironwood. I have some Ironwood from Brazil which is harder than desert Ironwood, and has an unusual interlocking grain and is highly figured. Hard enough that a 1/32 inch cut of a 4: wide board will eat new planer blades. Bad on me... Should have had a clue when a hand plane would not touch it.
