I am looking for suggestions on how to keep a record of my collection of Buck 110"s. How do you catalog your knives? Do you use a spreadsheet, pictures or a binder? Any suggestions would be welcome.

I just have a list in numerical order by model number (110's, 111's, 112's etc.) with a description of the knife saved on my computer in word.

I don't do that, I've tried, but I'm not disciplined enough and find that I enjoy re-discovering knives that I don't remember having. The older I get the more enjoyment I seem to have:D Preston

As soon as I get a knife I assign an ID Number and mark a small piece of tape with the number, one tape each for the knife, box, and sheath. I use a spread sheet with 12 columns: ID#; Description; Year; Steel; Condition; Sheath/Box (yes or no); Comments; Purchase Date; Cost; Shipping Cost; Total Cost; Name of Seller.

Since I store the knives separately from the boxes and sheaths, it's important to label everything with the ID#. In addition, I have separate spreadsheets for 110s, 300 Series, Fixed Blades, and Miscellaneous Folders.

Also, I try to take photos right away.

With a spreadsheet, you can sort information in a lot of ways.

The important thing with all of this is to do it right away, otherwise, things get out of hand.

I do a spreadsheet, similar to bertl's description, in chronological order, but havn't done the id#.

I think the advantage of using an ID# is that when you have 3 or 4 knives of the same model, version and year it separates some details that might vary—condition, seller, box/sheath.

No doubt, I'm just not there yet and probably should be doing it anyway.

Purdy, not perdy...:D:p

I'm not that organized, ask my wife....o_Oo_Oo_O:eek::confused:

I guess I do have mine organized. The boxes are stacked just right so as to not avalanche...:D:D:p
Same thing must be a regional acsent thingy?
I must admit mine are organized in my mind.
But no one in the family will have a clue when i depart this big round ball... :)

I found out the hard way to keep boxes, shieth's and all paperwork for each knife together..I display my 112's so I've always kept the knives separate and when I put together a shieth display they were further separated to the point I am not sure what goes correctly with each knife. I also didn't save many of the more common type boxes due to storage issues..and now wish I had. It would have been so easy to take 4 or 5 pictures when I got it home to KNOW what I paid, correct box and shieth no matter what I did for display or storage. What works for you depends on how many you have. A dozen or so anything will do but as the number goes up the better you need to be organized. If your regularly buying knives try and keep a short list in your wallet or close to you so you don't buy duplicates!

^we all know what Davids sayin'. :)

I'm too lazy to keep track of my knife bucks and other brands. I use all of mine except for extras. I do it sassafrasdog3 style. pile boxes up, hope they dont fall over. i just need a mushroom closet so they multiply.;)

I just have an out-dated inventory list of all my knives ... somewhere ...
that's good.....you got me chuckling there Sir.

I'm taking it as irony and on purpose you saying it like that. youre being whitty on purpose, right?

Excel spread sheet. I fill out a "paper" worksheet for each knife with matching fields to the spreadsheet and file the paper copy by by date. Every knife, sheath, and box is labeled with a 3 or 4 digit month/year number. For example every knife I purchase this month will be labeled "119". Simple, short, and makes it easy to find the relevant spread sheet entry, paper copy, and matching box & sheath. I use Brother P-Touch labels. There is also a digital file folder also stored by Model and Date that contains any images I've taken of the knife. If acquired on eBay I also store a digital copy of the listing, paypal receipt, and the listing image.
It's a lot but works for me.
