Catapult anyone?

I just wondered if any of you carry a Catapult in your survival kits?
I would guess that the average Joe might have more success using one than trying to set snares and traps......what are your thoughts?:)

Catapult = slingshot, there have been several threads about this if you do a search, also check primitive weapons. Chris

That would be a slingshot for the Americans on the board. We tend to picture siege engines with the word "Catapult" slinging boulders and rotting cattle over castle walls.

Yes, I have a "Wrist Rocket" that I've used to hunt lizards with. It is very effective for birds too.

Now judging by the headless condition it must look like I'm really good at it. The fact is that the misses didn't make it into the picture nor do the body shot hits as they tend to flip down into the rocks and die a twitchy death out of reach. Therefore I do aim for the head and sometimes I hit them.

I did eat these BTW, steamed. Not much for the effort.

You are an awesome dude. I have a profound respect for people that eat what they kill.

*Don't do anything with the ol slingshot though.

I asked this question on a different forum and was ridiculed for the idea. Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this might be a good idea.:D

I used to use them a lot till one of the rubbers broke and snapped me in the eye.
No permanent damage but lost my enthusiasm for them.
Still, you can get pretty deadly with them, and if you was meat hunting for the pot,
it would be pretty handy to have one in your bag.

We won't talk about hiding along the trail and shooting somebody in the ass when they walk bye.
then you just shoot a rock over yonder than sneak off while there looking for where the sound come from;)
But that's only something a kid would do.:D
Ahh... the good old days.

They're were many a starling and pidgeon (both varmints in my state) that fell to a wristrocket like that when I was a kid...Been thinking about picking one up again.

used to shoot one all the time before I got my first .22LR Takes a lot of skill to hit lizards PICT...nice shooting.

You can "fish" with a slingshot too, if a fish is in nice shallow water. I used to kill bluegills and sunnys with mine as a kid, you just have to aim slightly under them because of the refraction. I found that a projectile works a lot better than a fish spear (but a net, trap or rod would be better of course:D ) Plus a nice pebble stuns a fish pretty good. I never had too much luck with moving targets though.

I Carry Tournequet Tube in all my survival kits in because it is versitile including being useful as a slingshot. I have used a wrist rocket effectiveley to repel teenagers on Mischeif Night. I have also confiscated them off of homeless people who carry them for defense. I think they are a very underestimated weapon.

PS: in airports in england the posted lists of banned weapons includes "Catapult". My freinds and I had a huge laugh over this until I read the SAS survival manual and saw the term applied to what I call a slingshot.

Victor brand rat traps are excellent for food procurement, just a little bit bulky. I can tell you've been around the barn a couple of times!

Slingshots are excellent survival weapons, I don't care what anyone says, I've hunted with them enough to know the deal.

Back in the city, my friend Dan would annihilate pigeons all the time with a slingshot and glass marbles. With a little practice it's so easy to get good enough to snag some birds for dinner (in the bush, not city pigeons).

I had alot of fun with mine as a kid, i still have it, but the rubber band is in rough shape.
