Categories for your knife collection

On my triweekly evening drive, I had a thought of how to categorize my knives, at first I had 3 categories, and then 4, and then 8.
Here are some of mine; what's yours?
First and top: Beautiful and Untradable
Second: Beautiful, but not exactly you. Tradeable.
Third: Babied carries: Nice carries that you'll stick in your pocket and cut paper or thin plastic packages.
Fourth: Carries. Use them.
5th: Decent, but not you, definate traders (or sellers)
6th: Users.
7th: Beaters.
8th: Junk. Not even worth sharpening, but you still don't want to pitch them
 
1. Customs (only three at the moment)
2. EDC folders
3. User/Beater fixed blades
4. Cheap junk (only two, a cheap Bali and a BRK Native :barf: )

I have maybe one or two that don't fit any of those (like my SOG Desert Dagger and Swamp Rat INFIcoot), but that pretty much covers it all. Aside from two of the customs, evrything gets used. :D

Well you could also have.

1c. Production by style (fixed, folder, bali...)
1d. Production by sub type (boot, bowie, auto,...)

2. Custom
2a. Custom from country
2b. Custom by maker
2c. Custom by style (fixed, folder, bali...)
2d. Custom by sub type (boot, bowie, auto,...)

3. Own creation
 
All balisong knives fall into three categories:

Cheap junk,

Mine,

and

Mine but just temporarily separated from me by circumstances beyond my control which I will have to work to correct.

2 Fixed new factory edge
3 folders users
4 foldrs user beateres
5 stuff i dont like some junk some not. what I call give away knives :)

now they came out with a half and half, so you guys may have to add a few more categories . I forget what they call it but its somewhat a custom production knife :)
 
Basically, it boils down to whether a knife is in my EDC rotation, is sitting in one of my drawers for some reason or other, or is a knife that I want but don't have yet.

My clasification would have to be:

1. EDC rotation
2. Carry for special occasions
3. Production collection (fondle gently)
4. Bought to use, but didn't care for
5. Junk, but its a knife and I just can't bear to part with the damn thing
 
My categories:
Custom & production, use and enjoy (almost all fit this category).
Custom, I bought it to carry and use and I swear I will some day (two in this category, a Centofante tail lock folder and a black lip pearl and damascus folder by Bailey Bradshaw).
Production, I bought it to fill a niche I never actually encounter in my daily life (e.g., BKT Magnum Camp), but if I ever do, I'll be using it.
Custom, too d@mn pretty to use (actually, only one knife currently in this category, a Jot Khalsa folder with mosaic damascus blade and bolsters).
 
One's I won't use. (bad gifts)
One's I can't use. (broken)
One's I will use. (don't own)
One's I do use. (everything else)
The one's I use I break down into:
-A. Razor sharp
-B. Formerly razor sharp

That about sums it up...:p

Deciding factor: Where will I be?

I don't break the law often. I don't even sin often. But I will make my own choices.

LOL, a fellow Ohioan who thinks just the way I do (see above). :)

I have three classes of knives.
1.users,of which I've got maybe 3-4.
2.keepers,gifts,sentimental attachment,etc. maybe5-6.
3.fair game.all the rest are just trades waiting to happen.
