Well...what about other fixed blades that are not "fixed outdoors"? What about "fixed tactical" or "fixed utility"? Where do they go?

And don't people use machetes as "fixed outdoors" knives? So wouldn't they go into GKD by your own proposal and not Swords?

Maybe you need to bake this idea a bit longer! (Bread knife....bake?!? Get it? BLAHAHAHAHA...I crack me up.)
 
Kitchen is a pretty dead subforum here. The poster who opened those threads had tried to ask a few questions in Kitchen but got very few replies. He got a lot more feedback and decent answers in General.

Maybe you are right, that there is no longer a need for the kitchen subforum here, and that those types of threads should just be rolled up into General.

It's a shame people here aren't as interested in kitchen knives as they are in other types. There is plenty of depth in that field. Enough to satisfy practical cooks, collectors, hobbyists, sharpeners, and makers. There are a couple of other very active forums dedicated to kitchen knives, though, so maybe we don't need to cover the topic here.

If General is split into Folders and Fixed Outdoors...how would kitchen knives fit in there?
 
They would not. I was not addressing that part of the OP's suggestion.

Personally, I would hate to see General discussion split between fixed and folding knives. It would interfere with the flow of discussion and make way more work for the mods.
 
I don't like swords and machetes being the same forum category, even though machetes get posted there sometimes.

Kitchen knives don't belong in the same forum category as fixed/folding knives that get carried around, imo.
