Blades Guide lists Catskill Knife Co. as a manufactures brand of Camillus. Was the Catskill company an existing company bought by Camillus? Or was it just a name that came out of the merchandising department? I live very near the town of Catskill and would love to know if there was some knife history in the area.
Thanks
Dave

NY state has a long history of knife making ,certainly in Orange and Ulster Cos. Do a little searching .

Thanks mete, I'm fairly familiar with the legacy of knife makers in that area, but was surprised to see the Catskill name on a tang stamp recently.

Did a brief search about knives in NY. Very interesting ,even some similarities !! At one time faced with competition from low priced German knives a tariff was passed thus saving some knife companies !! Ulster Knife Co, NY Knife Co, US Knife Co and others were in the Orange Co/Ulster Co area.

Most of those companies were in close proximity, and had close family ties as well. Ellenville, home of Schrade Walden and others is about 40 miles south of me. Catskill is in the southern part of Green county, maybe 50 miles from where all the factories were in Ulster and Orange counties. A few weeks ago I was doing a search relevant to Catskill history and found a little knife, tang stamped Catskill Knife Co. and thought there may have been a knife factory by that name in the area. More than likely it's just a name someone came up with to add to the camillus line.
