Caught this couple weeks ago in my kayak a couple miles North of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel high rise. I fished 12 hours that day in 25-35 degree air temps, 45 degree water temps, and caught it on the 12th hour, around 9:00pm. I would have posted it up sooner, but I just started looking on this subforum, Ive over looked it in the past. Anyway, she was 45", in the 40lb range, caught in an Ocean Kayak Prowler 13. She towed me a good ways, 60-70 yards, plenty of good drag runs, just a really fun fight. I also hooked another one, every bit as big as this one, but as I was reaching down to grab her, she took off again, pulling drag and wrapped around a barnicle covered pole, cutting my 50lb braid.

I have a couple shots of me in the kayak, but I look a little dazed and down right stupid ;)

Very nice striper. Unfortunately we don't have any of those left on the Oregon coast. However, we do have chinook (king) salmon...

Nice chrome there. I live on the Alsea, where was that one caught?

Wow, great catch...my little 2lb bass makes me a little "fish-envy":D

ROCK6

I used a Abu Garcia 6000 reel, that I modified with an extra bearing, Smooth carbon and stainless washers, and a power handle. It is the poor mans fancy reel - inexpensive, and you can make em as fancy or plain as ya want. The rod was an Ugly Stik Tiger Lite, 7', 1-5oz rating. It is super tough, cheap, and really a pretty decent stick. Line was 50lb PowerPro braid, with Momoi's Mono 60lb leader.
steelhdr, that is an AWESOME pic. I love the Prowler Big Game as well, SUPER stable. I am using the original Prowler 13 Angler model, its narrow, but really fast. Im looking at a couple Ocean Kayak models for next year, and the Big Game is one of em. I want a stable wide boat to use for sight casting, and use the Prowler I have for trolling where I need to cover alot of ground.

Forgot to add, caught it on a live eel, 9/0 Owner SSW hook. I use 3-5oz of lead on top a swivel, with 30" or so of mono leader with the Owner hook, We fish em 1-4' off the bottom, reel in free spool with the clicker on.

Very cool stuff....Still can't quite imagine pulling that thing into the boat with you.

Great Striper bro!! Congrats.

I bet that made some big fillets, yum!

What were they biting on, eels?

Awesome photos of awesome fish. I myself frequently fish from my Prowler Big Game...it's a fantastic platform for that kind of work.

Sweet! I used to Kayak out on the Chesapeake, but never went fishing from the kayak. Chesapeake is a great place to go proguing around by kayak. Awesome catch. And welcome to W&SS!

Love those Abu reels! Out here I see a lot of Abu and Shimano Calcutta reels. I always go Abu for the custom/hotrod factor, and the price. Who needs a Rolex when a custom modded Seiko does it all for half the price?

Nice fish! Keep trying, when you get one over 10 pounds you won't have to hold it out so close to the camera.:D

wow I caught a 4lb pike this summer in a kayak and thought I caught a sea monster that must have been a struggle!

Great catch

Nice fish! I fish in the bay all the time nothing close to that this year I am looking forward to early spring season.

I want to try some surf fishing. Imagine fighting and landing that baby on a beach :)

Great pics, thanks.
