Some of you may remember last week I posted about my truck being broken into and things being stolen, among them a khuk...
I just got a call saying that my belongings are accounted for, and I can pick them up on Friday. The model number on the cd-player is right, so I'm pretty sure it is mine--they hadn't even gotten around to selling it yet.
From what I was told it was a couple of teenagers who--get this--were made to turn themselves in by their Mom!!!
That just made me laugh...it's hard to be a criminal mastermind when Mommy keeps getting in the way.
Anyway, just wanted to let everybody know!

It is refreshing to see that some parents are still taking their role seriously. I know my folk would have simply sentenced me to slave labor until every single one of my victims had been fully satisfied; and, I would probably do the same. I hope you get all your stuff back in good order.

I was worried about the khuk too, but it doesn't look like a problem. Being in a box, I think, helped keep it from being viewed as a truck weapon--even though it wasn't taped up yet. The "machete thing" was talked about in the phone call, and he didn't say anything about it being excluded from stuff I could pick up, so I think it's okay.

That Mom IS one of the good guys!!!! We need more parents like her in this day and age!!!!

I'm now proud to say that my folks would've done the same thing, as would I.
One instance comes to mind. My son stole a semi tractor and thought he had hid it in the woods.
He made his second mistake by going back to where it was hid to steal the radio and stereo system out of it.
The police were already there, my son tried to deny he knew anything about the rig, but the keys to it in his pocket were beyond damning him.:D
I wasn't around at the time, but doubt he would've called me anyway.
He called his mother and when she had gotten him out of jail her first words were, "Where did you learn to drive a semi?"
I would've let him set it out.:)

congratulations to the police, you, and the perpetrators' Mom. Are you allowed to send her flowers...or would that start a whole 'nother thing?

Hey, every once in a while the good guys come out on top. Let's here it for parents making their kids own up and take responsiblity.

I haven't gotten to speak to the lady, though I asked the officer who called me to tell her thanks for me. He says that she promises her sons will cover all damages.

My parents wouldn't have appreciated it either. I remember a news show (Dateline, or one of those) that was running a story on the stresses that modern teens face and how that's why many turn to drugs. I remember, during a commercial, Dad told me that no matter how bad my life ever got, it would get ten times worse if he ever caught me using drugs.

I knew he was kidding, though--if he'd caught me using drugs, my life wouldn't have gotten worse, it just would have ended.

Edited to add: It just ocurred to me, that this show/conversation would have been almost ten years ago. Time flies, even when you're only occasionally having fun.

another thumbs up!

Hope the lads learn their lesson and change for the better. Jail/detention won't change 'em though. It's what they do when they get out that determines the rest of their life. Hope they have good family support...sounds like Mom is ok...

I would've let him set it out>> Yvsa

My folks were going to let me sit out a drunk arrest for a weekend but they found out the cops were beating me so they bailed me out.

I think a lot of that pressure comes from lack of perspective. For example, a $200 pair of sneakers, or what person X wrote about you on the bathroom wall can seem mighty important, unless you've lived on $10 of food for a month. TV doesn't help much - see music videos with $50,000+ vehicles and MTV "Cribs" (tours through the houses of rich, materialistic pop stars). Unfortunately, some parents are just as bad as their kids.

It's all relative.

YMMV

Actually, JUSTRIGHT, it's already gotten rid of! ;)
It was intended for a friend when it was stolen, and it has now resumed its journey. I don't feel bad, because I haven't been good enough to deserve such khuk loyalty, so it must have come back for his sake. No one need worry, it's going to at least as good a home as it had with me. :)
