Like many of you, I've installed the Magazine Finger Extensions on my LCP mags that were designed for use with the KelTec P3AT... they seemed like they would work fine on the LCP. I just had TWO of the KelTec extensions fail on the first round fired... The extension bottom plate broke, fell off, and unloaded the remaining rounds into my off hand. The spring and carrier would have come out had I not caught them.
Bottom line? I do NOT recommend that anyone continue to use the extensions designed for the P3AT on their LCP mags.
For anyone who HAS the P3AT Finger grip extensions installed on their mags, closely examine the way IT is designed, compared to Ruger's standard flat plate that came with your mags. You will see that the standard Ruger plate has much more reinforcement above the slot, which holds the plate onto the mag. The P3AT extension plates that failed on me, snapped right at the slot.
I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem... and I don't see it as a "DANGER" or even "WARNING" type of failure, but it kinda stinks that the rounds and guts of your mag might end up in the dirt (or snow in my case) because the P3AT extensions break.
I've not seen Rugers own finger grip extensions yet (out of stock everywhere) or those made by Pearce, but I'd be interested to know if they are like the standard bottom plates by Ruger, or if they are like the P3AT extensions (are the Ruger and Pearce one's as robust around the slot as are the standard Ruger plates, or are they much thinner... like the P3AT extensions???).
If someone happens to have a new Ruger brand finger grip extension and/or one made by Pearce, could you please compare the thickness of it (above the slot), as compared to the standard, flat plate made by Ruger?
Mucho appreciado!
