I got a CB Leek blem from Dave recently. It was nice, but would never open up all the way when only using the flipper & no wrist flick. I tried adding lubrication & adjusting tension on the pivot, but that wasn't enough to fix it unless the blade was stupid loose. I then saw & purchased a laser etched Leek CKT from the Classifieds here. It worked perfectly, so I swapped the blades around. Still opens opens & stops at the same point & the other worked even faster.
Here:
I even took the blade out again & lightly polished the blade, copper washers, frame, liner, & pivot to be sure there were no burrs anywhere to no avail. Then I broke out the dial calipers & did some measuring. Turns out this blade was .001" thicker at the pivot point than all my other Leeks. So, I disassembled both frames & measured the parts between the scales. The washers were identical, but the backspacer from the CB frame was also .001" thicker. Swapped those around & there was a slight improvement, but just barely. And now the other knife wasn't as easy to open. Then I remembered reading how somebody bent open the lockbar on a knife, so I tried that on both. FINALLY! The slightly reduced tension from the lockbar was enough to allow them to both open all the way
And now here are my FrankenLeeks!
I also swapped the clips around.
I've had a silver half serrated Leek since 2004 & got an all black one a year or 2 ago. I've always been tempted to swap the parts around, but never actually did it. Since the CB was all silver other than the blade & the etched one was originally all black, I finally did it. I really like the results
