CBT or Not CBT....that's my dilemma..

Have some of you guys put against same type of choppers or similar big blades with FFG and CBT?..

I'm about to buy a second MOABOLO... I have a FFG, that I really love, but I "NEED" (my wife goes in WTF$@#!? mode when I say that)...a second one.

So I was wondering if you guys did some comparison? I know, logically, that CBT will stuck less in green wood, but does it bite about the same? Or will it have also a higher friction, so a shorter bite?

Not the answer you're looking for, but fwiw, I'd only get a cbt blade if I want a cbt if that makes sense. On a moabolo I'd say no, but on a battle shark definitely yes.

Keep in mind, the CBT MOABOLO is thicker than the non-CBT model. That may play a larger factor than the CBT.

IMO, I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't want CBT, but unless you really wanted it I can't think of a reason it's a must have feature.

Yeah, it's thicker plus it has a sort of high saber, that will make the geometry even more wedgy.

I mean, I like both, saw few stripped CBTs, from some member here, great looking blade.

Hard to say which or how one is better than the other. Only way is to test them side by side, I guess.

If you're stripping, CBTs make for a lot more work to get a smooth finish

Yeah, I immagine that the grooves will not make it easy to polish.

Have you stripped a CBT blade?

In a Moabolo I would go with CBT.. I have a stripped one and she is a bit thicker then others.. pics below. Sorry for the poor quality:/ IMG_1874.JPG

I love the way my stripped HUCK turned out :)

Oh man... she's a beauty.

If I'll get one, you have to give me few tips on how to strip&polish! :)

I stripped a CGFBM with CBT, by hand using sandpaper. It took a long time in the grooves getting imperfections out and decarb. In fact I'm still working on it bit by bit cleaning it up.

I'm only a beginner when it comes to stripping but I've found that some coatings respond well to paint stripper and some don't. Maybe I just need a better stripper. It's easy enough to sand them though.

If your stripping it. Go with a blaster, sand or glass. It get's everything out.

I stripped the tanker grey from my FFG MOABolo and it was an absolute nightmare!!!! The stripper barely softened the coating and I had to scrape it off. Most of the other coatings have bubbled and literally fallen.
On the bright side, it looks effin awesome and has become my favourite large Busse!!

MOABOLO's are awesome in whatever version you get, but I do prefer the ones without CBT. Since you already have one though, perhaps you should consider getting a MOAB instead of another MOABOLO?

"two is one, one is none"... !!

I'll try to buy 2 MOAB after my second MOABOLO!! :p

I have to admit that MOABOLOs are my favourite blades at the moment...

Will micarta hold, sand blasting, and/or strippers? Or do I need to protect it with some tape? (Guess a solvent resistant one).
