CBT refinishing tricks?

Finally got around to refinishing my CG FBM, and I've found it's gonna be a little trickier than I had hoped. Any quick and easy ways to get the milling marks out of the corrugated bevels without smoothing them over too much? The main goal here is to keep them as sharp and pristine as possible. I've thought about using a felt wheel on a dremel and some valve lapping compound, then finishing it up with scotchbrite or sandpaper. I'm just hoping it won't be 100 percent grunt work with coarse sandpaper :(

Good luck with that. I don't think anyone has tried to clean up the valleys and maintain the peaks. Could be a lot of work.

I'm thinking I might just make it a long term project, I'm going to preserve the cbt's but I don't plan on driving myself insane doing it. I'm thinking a small felt dremel wheel by hand with lapping compound, and work on it every weekend for a few minutes till it's done.

I fixed your post. :D

Seriously... felt wheels on dremels have very little effect on steel that needs sanding ... especially INFI.

You would be better off using small pieces of wet n dry sandpaper and a "push stick" (i.e a stick formed to fit into the grooves.)

Good luck. :)

I guarantee that's it's possible, whether it's worth the effort and whether I have the skills, I'm not so sure :foot: Worst case is I'd like to clean them up good enough so it'd look nice with a double cut finish.

It's going to be alot of work either way .I remember a Hellrazor somebody did for his buddy in country .It was mirror finish , I'm sure someone has that old thread . Good luck and post pics when done .
