CCCP AK-47 Bayonet

Yesterday my friend gave me an original Soviet bayonet for AK47 rifle. It's a fine piece of work, with a polished, heavy blade about 5mm thick, but I can't find out what kind of steel was used for production of these knives. To my untrained eye it certainly doesn't look like 420 stainless. It's at least 25 years old. All that says on the blade is CCCP (USSR) AK47.
If anybody has any info on the subject, you're welcome to post it.

I' have one original for shure. It was confiscated about 15 or more years ago from a detective fried of mine to a russian mafia element here in Rome. Then he gave me as a present. Is undoubtely a military item, terribly sturdy, absolutly no fashion. If you need to know any particular just drop me a sign.

Hey Fatish, Here's a few picture's of my Yugoslavian Underfolder, I think the Bayonet Is Romanian, This Is one of my Favorite AK 47's ! I got the Bayonet for 10.00 my Dealer give me a Deal on It,

OK, here it is. I couldn't find it on that site, Girlymann, but I think the quality is too fine for it to be crapy Chinese knife. Also, Ken, I served Yugoslav army in 1990, but bayonets were completely different, I had about 100 pieces in my sergeant's office where I worked. The only similarity is that you could also make wire cutters when you attach blade to the sheath. This one doesn't have that option and I can't tell if it's a knock-off, but it sure has a different, more dagger-like blade than those on that site you gave me. It came with a poor leather sheath that might be a replacement for the original one.
PS: I took no part whatsoever in the following Yugoslav conflict, for I was dishonorably discharged from the Army after 4 months for disobeying orders.

Fatish, unfortunately, that is a Chinese made commercial item, that is NOT a military issue bayonet. It is designed to be more of a souvenier. They are marked in a very decieving way. The Soviets did not mark their bayonets like that, nor did they issue any bayonets in that pattern. That bayonet vaguely resembles Mauser type bayonets that date the WWII and earlier vintage. They are inexpensive items. Here is a similar item for sale by BUD-K, a purveyor of imported Chinese and Pakistani cutlery.

While it is not worth much, I believe that you should treasure the bayonet for what it is- a gift from a dear friend.

Luckily, I bought Kershaw Junkyard Dog II that day (90.99 euros in Serbia), so I can find some comfort at least...

The thing that gave it away was your description, it being polished stainless steel!
Originals are made with some form of tool-steel; and hard chromed in a matted finish.
And I can't say that I've seen any Soviet bayonets which were ever marked "CCCP", let alone "AK-47".
Moreover FYI, on original USSR bayonets - you would find registration numbers marked with an Electric Stencil Pen; and sometimes the manufacturer's stamp.
 
That's a Nice Bayonet Fatish, I like the Wire Cutting feature of the AK 47 Bayonet, I think on the one I have The Romanian the Handle's are called Bake-O-Lite and they chip and arent the best I dont believe, I want to get the Bulgarian AK 47 Bayonet for my Collection, This Web-Site has some Romanian Bayonets for 10.00, Here's a Link they also have some "Very Beautiful Well Built AK 47's !" http://hammerstonearsenal.com/ Take Care !

Yugoslav bayonet handles were made from plastic that looked durable. I'm not sure how they look now, Army (or what's left of it) is probably supplied with a NATO standard gear, I don't know if they even use bayonets nowadays.
 
I know that the AK bayonet that I have is super tough to sharpen.I have both an AK-47 and AK-74 bayonets.Both are tough to get an edge on but keep the edge well after it's there.My 74 bayonet has the wire cutter sheath with the detachable frog.
