CCW in California

Perhaps someone here lives in California, preferably Northern, and managed to acquire a CCW permit? I understand I may be appealing to a very small crowd considering that San Jose hasn't given a permit out in twenty years I believe, and other Bay Area cities are just as frugal. If someone here has one, perhaps you could enlighten me as to how you were able to get it?

My understanding is that if you are in the San Francisco bay area, Southern California or the Sacramento area you might as well give up. Those residing in the rural areas of Calif. have a much better chance of getting one. YMMV

However, if you're an affluent left wing elitist like Alec Baldwin and you dislike the NRA or any other pro-2nd Ammendement organizations, your chances of getting a CCP are very good.

The Bay Area seems to be effectively impossible to get a CCW in. However, San Bernardino county seems to be another story.

I read an article about a man who was, like you described, anti-NRA, and was forced to get a CCW license because of the threats he got from the NRA nuts. Isn't that ironic? To be forced to carry to protect yourself from those who promote gun rights and safety.

Isn't that embellished? Isn't that propaganda? Are all NRA members nuts? Is generalization with no evidence a cheap shot?

Bang!

Those folks DO NOT represent the NRA. There are fringe members to every large organization.

rebel, Good luck in your pursuit of a CCW here in CA. Like others have said, in the Bay area (and most of CA...), unless you are LEO/former LEO or a famous hollyweird type (...oh or if you are Senator Feinstein  ), then its not going to happen.

Join the NRA, and the CRPA here in CA, and get involved - write to your congressman, governor, and senator when bad gun legislation is introduced. We may never get to be a shall-issue CCW state, but we can stave off further infringement of our second amendment rights.

I'm a NRA life member. I've never threatened anyone. How about that! I take severe exception to your post. Perhaps you misspoke?
Bob

One of the main beliefs of joining the NRA is to protect your right to arm. It is a precious right, why would one of these "NRA nuts" threaten someone, when such behavior could potentially dissolve that right. Sounds like B.S.

If anything you say has a shred of truth (which I doubt), I do indeed find that very ironic, but obviously for a different reason than you do. You guys are missing the point that if he thinks that carrying a gun will protect him, then he's either changed his mind about being against guns or he's a hypocrite. After all, if he felt in danger, he should just carry his cell phone and dial 911 when the 'bad guys' attack...

All the antis carry guns, and they all say they're not hypocrits; they only carry a gun because they've gotten threatening mail from people they invariably describe as "NRA members."

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. If they ever succeed in taking the guns away from all the "NRA members" they'll give up their guns too ... they're not afraid of mere criminals, only of "NRA members."

It seems that my only recourse is to get the heck out of California. I lived in Las Vegas briefly, perhaps I'll go back there. Thanks guys. :(

Its your only recourse unfortunately :( I have been trying to escape the freaking PRK for the last 12 months since my layoff. If you can go back to Vegas my advice is run dont walk.

Born and raised in CA. Great place to live - political climate sucks. My daughter is a 5th generation Californian. I have a CCW - not impossible.

For those who think of it as the "PRK" please do leave.

Practical Use, would it be posssible for you to share your CCW obtaining experience with the forum? What did you supply as your "qualified reason" for needing the CCW permit? Your insight into the matter would be greatly appreciated.

After reading this, and before looking at your location, I thought to myself, "He must live in Northern California." :D

Down here in Southern CA, everything sucks, basically...

I used to be from the Southern part - long time ago. I loved growing up in Southern California in the early 60's. But, I must admit that now I avoid the Southern part, except to see family, or once in a while on business.

I went to the county with a well written reason - the truth. Work late at night for part of the year. In addition, travel with sample case containg records (not valuables). I had been turned down previously (late 70's). I think (but I am not sure) that I received my permit because during the oral interview I was straight up, and answered the questions in a manner acceptable to the officer. Another factor, extensive personal training and qualifications - range master, etc. I'll never know, but I did receive the permit. I think one factor that may help in any application and interview is attitude.

You must be very far up in Northern CA, there are those few rural counties where sheriffs still are willing to issue CCW's and there are some rational people in the state left. I know of a couple of people with the money to do so who have bought 2nd homes up that way just so they could get a CCW, one person ended up moving up there fulltime to avoid the Sheeple, PC and related left wing BS that has over-run this state. Unfortunately that is an expensive option & funnily enough my friend who moved full time has found that he hasnt escaped it as much as he thought and is already looking over the border at Nevada. I am a native, born and raised here, this used to be a great state before the Pelosi's, Boxers, Feinstein's and before the dot com influx and price increases - last 10-20 years this state has gone to hell - its truly sad and what is worse there are so many leaving this state for Vegas that I hear from some of my friends there that the PRK escapees are starting to ruin there as well and becoming unwelcome. If we are not careful the PRK way of thinking & lifestyle will spread nationwide and that would be a tragedy.

Good to hear there's some hope for those that need it. Without going into details, would you mind telling us what county you applied in? That would help a great deal, as attitudes seem to vary widely county by county. Thanks.

Born and raised in California. Born in Bakersfield, raised in the central valley and have lived in LA as well as the last 15 years in the silicon valley. I'm as Californian as you can get.

All that being said, I hate it here. This is NOT the state I grew up in. There is no sense of community here, unless you like the community of the foreign country that your neighbor came from. Drivers are the worse I've seen anywhere in the world, and I've been all over. Home prices are beyond unreal and I can never afford to buy a place here. Even if I could, I would be too broke to even fix it up. My kids can't even play out in the front yard because I'm afraid some scumbag will kidnap them, or my jerk neighbor will complain about their noise. Yep, real friendly people we have here.

All in all, i really, really hate this place, and I was raised here. Ain't that a bitch.

The problem is I work in such a narrow field that finding work in another state that I can get my wife to move to is next to impossible. So here I am, miserable as can be.

At least I have my computer and you guys. :) Sniff, sniff.
