Today..I swallowed my last pill for Diabetes....Went to the Doctor and was told that ...( thank GOD!) I am no longer diabetic. ..

How did this happen you ask? Two years ago I was diagnosed as type II diabetic. I was always in excellent control with the help of medication untill last Xmas. At that time I developed a ear infection which lingered. I was feeling horrible...sick, tired,,and my blood sugars went crazy..which made me more sick, more tired,,,anyway..I go to the Doctor and he starts doubling my meds...I think to myself..Crap Im 41 and Im taking 9 different prescription medicines..what is it going to be like when I am 51..or if I make it.. 61...

I remember this old movie about a judge..and he was always taking medication and he used to say to the lawyers..."see this blue pill it reminds me to take the white pill. see the white pill..it reminds me to take the pink pill..see this pink pill..it reminds me to take the yellow pill...etc.

So I tell my Doctor that I dont want more pills I want to kick Diabetes in the ass..and he tells me that my pancreas could probably recover within the first two years of diagnosis...if I lost weight..and Lots of it...

So I checked myself into the fat farm two weeks ago. I am medically monitered. I have blood drawn every two weeks..I see a doctor, a nurse, and a lady with a alligator purse every week. ( and I see a therapist..how cool is that!!!!!..last week I told him about my deep hatred and fear of Richard Gere and Gerbils and vasiline...he thinks Im nuts..huh..screw him..hes the looney!)

so for twelve weeks I have kissed solid food goodbye..and in the first two weeks I have dropped with excersise...22lbs..and cut my blood pressure meds in half and no longer need Diabetic meds...YEEEHAHHHH

if any of you corkies are newly diagnosed type II dont waste time..see your doctor and get a medically managed weight loss regimine going asap..

anyway Im happy as hell...and Im buying a speedo for the pool party at blade..

Well done Ren, but I guess I can't buy you a scotch at Blade.......

Still, why did you have to spoil the good news with the mental image of you in a speedo...............

Ren...first of all, congratulations. Great work!

Second of all...when you were diagnosed with Type II, did you have any symptoms? Frequent leaks, sugary, fruity breath, wild swings in energy?

at the time I was trying to control blood pressure..had a lot of blood work done..
my most common symptom was feeling exhausted and tired and bonking out when my blood sugars got too low..I didnt know what this was at the time and it worried me.

Congratulations, Ren! The pills were just a piece of it; you did all the hard work. I hope you keep up your new, healthier lifestyle!

Ren,

You and I shall raise a glass of fat and down spoonfuls of sugar at Blade to celebrate your not dying.

Congrats!

12 weeks!!??

I mean, I was on a liquid diet through a large part of college, but...

Mamma Mia, if the cure ain't worse than the disease...

Congrats, Ren, that had to be a real bear.

Way to go Ren, that's taking the bull by the horns and doing what you needed to do to help yourself.

Diabetes runs in my family on my Mother's side and I know it's up to me to take care of myself.

Thanks for the inspiration to do the right thing.

Ren,
Was that vertigo you had part of the symptoms?
I'm glad you're on the road to recovery.

Congrats Ren! That's great news and I'm sure it feels even better to know that you will have one less perscription drug to buy.

This kind of scares the crap out of me, because I have been feeling exactly like you described. I used to be able to go all day without eating and feel good, though hungry. Now I feel spaced out and tired when I need to eat. Cranky as hell to, according to the wife.

Guess it is time for me to go to the doctor. :grumpy:

Awesome news, Ren!

Good to hear a life-style change can do miracles like that. Hang tough and thanks for the Speedo warning..........looks like I'll be stayin' home after all! ;)

Congrats Ren!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was diagnosed with type II a around Thanksgiving 2003. I've controled it with diet and haven't had to take any meds...I plan on keeping it that way. I've dropped 50 pounds and would like to drop another 20.

When I was 19 I found out I had type II. In about 3 months, I lost almost 60 pounds, just through diet and excercise, the total was about 100 pounds lost. I got an active job at Wally World, and for about 2 years, I kept it off. Then, I got a job as a desk jockey, and I've slowly but surely over the last 3 years packed it all back on and some extra! Now in addition to diabetes, I have atrial fibrillation. I almost got rid of diabetes, and now I probably have type 1. Congratulations, though, that's a great victory, I hope to follow in your footsteps. It was a real shock when I found out I couldn't hike and camp where I used to :(.
