I am interested in getting a smartphone/blackberry type device but am having a hard time figuring out what to get. I'm not too interested in a iPhone because I already have an iPod that fits my needs. I don't have to have the newest technology and the latest phone, but don't want to buy a dinosaur either. Since they all have the same basic features, the specifics I am looking for are:

  • Decent Camera (2.0mp + or -)
  • Full Keyboard
  • WiFi
  • SIM Card, 3G network
  • Unlocked

Anyone have any decent suggestions?

Nokia will release a much cheaper version of the E71 without GPS and a 2mp (instead of 3.5) camera soon. It's called the E63.

Hey, I will check out the Nokia. Thanks Doc!

I was a little afraid of posting this question because of all the spammers. Its not getting much attention either, so maybe folks think thats what this is. But if anyone else has suggestions I would appreciate them.

I'm a Blackberry addict. The Blackberry Bold would seem to fit your parameters, but its spendy at $299 if you get a 2 year AT&T contract. But for the addicted, we gotta have one since the (touch screen) Storm is not available thru AT&T. The Bold is somewhat on the large size, so it is more for belt carry than pocket. There are probably plenty of others. Scan thru the different flavors at at&t.com.

Edit: see also www.crackberry.com.

I have the LG Dare...not really a smartphone but it has a nice 3.0mp camera. Verizon came out with (not sure if its even out yet) with a similar phone to the iphone, called the "omnia" with a 5.0mp camera!

Hey, thanks for the suggestion powernoodle. I have discovered the Bold since originally asking this question. I'm not sure how different it is from the Curve. Big price difference though!!

Does a Blackberry have any advantages or disadvantages over a smartphone? What's the difference?

I love my Motorola Q, can be picked up in mint condition on the bay for around 75 to 90 bucks. They are no longer made but still available. Great phone, seems to meet all of your requirements.
