My cellulite handle is starting to rise up like an arch in the middle, and I want to fix it, it's got sentimental value(my first knife, from my dad), anyone havve a good tip? Will superglue do the job? Thanks, Steve

I'm sure you mean celluloid and not that lumpy fat that some people get on their thighs. Anyway...super glue might work. Most (all?) knifemakers use epoxy when attaching handles to a knife. Before you do anything, though, wait for opinions from those who know more than me.

I forgot we were in Multi-tools & Multi-purpose Knives forum. Now that I realize it, I can only assume we're talking about a SAK. So...I know some people use GOOP to attach scales to SAKs. Still, though, I'd wait for more knowledgeable replies.

Careful!!!!!!!!!!!!! Superglue may dissolve the celluloid.

Celluloid is VERY touchy stuff................ When it starts to deteriorateit gives off Nitric acid fumes and it will ruin the knife it's on and other metal around it, to say nothing of other things stored with the knife.

Once it starts to fail there is nothing to do but rip it off the knife and get rid of it.

This is the voice of E X P E N S I V E experience speaking here btw. I had serious problems with gorgeous, celluloid handled, Fight'n Roosters once upon a time. I was not a happy camper.

I still love how celluloid looks particularly, waterfall and butter and molasses. I just pay close attention to these knives. I don't leave them in a roll in a safe. I have them in a display case where I can pay attention to them.

For new SAK scales (made of cellidor) you can safely attach them with just a spec of GOOP brand cement in the recesses in the scales that are where the rivet bushings fit. To correct that bowing you may want to pop off the scale and then GOOP it down with the goop-in-the-holes trick plus a tiny bit to tack down that center part, and then clamp it in a padded vise.

I have used super glue,it will hold for some time, but after a few knocks the bond breaks.I havn't tried GOOP Cement, but I have used epoxy succesfuly several times, much stronger-longlasting than superglue.

There are better epoxies out there but loc-tite 60 minute has worked well for me.

I don't know about Celluloid but if we're talking about SAKs then we are talking about "Cellidor". I was puzzled to hear about it deteriorating with Super Glue because I have never had that experience. and have used it extensively. I was curious so I covered 1/2 a Cellidor scale with super glue and observed. There was absolutely NO adverse reaction whatsoever. It left a nice shiny surface with no residue, no deterioration, etc. I believe it is totally safe and will not ruin the scales. There are, however, better products as mentioned (i.e Goop and epoxy).
