center the blade on a traditional slip joint?

Anyone have a good method for doing this or do you just send yours back to the manufacturer and let them do it?
 
a lot of reasons which you might not notice so best to send it back. the tang may be defective (sides not perfectly parallel), or the liners and handles may have warped or deformed, or the pivot may be loose due to sloppy tolerances with the pivot hole.
