Centering issues

Hey all,

I just purchase a BM nitrous stryker (the last at my store) and I'm very happy with the purchase, save for one thing: the centering. The blade is pretty much rubbing up against the right liner, probably because its being pushed by the liner lock. It also doesn't help that the left and right bronze bushings on strykers are difference sizes.

Does anyone know of a quick fix? I tried tightening it down but then the action just completely gums up. Any help is appreciated.

I centered my completely off-centered knives by completely taking it apart and putting it back together while tightening the screws at an equal rate, centering the knife is really just about how the pivot screw is tightened.

Even with the pivot locked down its still far from centered. But I'll try disassembling and reassembling it.

Yeah my subrosa was the same way, it drove me nuts. Take it apart and tweek the screws, crazy but it does work, I had to repeat the process a couple of times though.

The best way I've found to center a folder is to loosen all the screws holding it together. Make sure you get all of them. Then take a small piece of paper and fold it up. Shove it between the blade and the liner (obviously while the knife is closed). Make sure this goes between the blade and the liner it was closer to when closed. Tighten it all back up and it's usually pretty well centered. Sometimes you have to play with the sequence of screws you tighten and sometimes you have to fold the paper more, or less, but it's worked for me every time so far.

could you clarify on that? Im not sure how the paper would stay.

^Sulaco's quoted method worked pretty well for me too.

Just fold the paper to the appropriate thickness and jam it in there so the blade is centered while you adjust the screws.

If that doesn't work send it to BM. They will center it for you. No charge.

I have used the same methods on both of my Contego knives, but with the edge of a credit card instead of paper. Actually it was my kniferights card but you know what I mean.

Out of the last year I've purchased well over a dozen Benchmade knives, and only my Contegos have had a problem. Great odds to me for such an easy fix. Although for 130-140, they should leave the shop centered.

I just got a BM with centering issues. Will they pay for shipping to and back as well? It seems ridiculous to pay shipping for a problem that came brand new from the factory.
