HI, Im thinking of buying a centofante 4.. can anyone tell me what country its made in..and how is the vg10 steel...how does it compare to S30.
if I dont get the cento 4 im going for the kershaw avalanche with S30 STEEL
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED...IVE CARRIED STAG HANDLED CASE KNIVES FOR YEARS,,IM LOOKING TO START CARRYING A TACTICAL..THANKS TOM

VG10 is tougher than S30v. S30v is finer grained and will hold an edge a little longer.

If you refine the edge on VG10, you probably won't notice much difference at all.

The centofante 4 is my most recent Spydie, and I absolutely LOVE the Wharncliffe blade design. It's just so darn practical for my day to day chores. The knife is thin and light, so it carries well. It also has a very attractive look, I've had some compliments by non knife people on its appearance (and it's razor sharp slicing ability)

VG10 is a time proven steel, this is actually my first vg10 blade, but I can't complain. Holds its edge very well, seems strong enough, though I did roll the edge a bit when it sliced through a rubber valve and into a steel wheel ( I was expecting more resistance in the valve, but it cut through it like it wasn't there) nothing I couldn't sharpen out, though.

My only cons, which wouldn't dissuade me from purchasing the knife again, are these. The blade's opening/closing action is just a bit stiff compared to my other spydies, and it hasn't loosened up yet. It's still very easy to open and close one handed, it just doesn't *swing* open like my Native or Tenacious. That might just be a fit and finish thing with my blade, not most others though.

Also, it has a bit of a point above the Spyderhole, when carried in your pocket tip down, it can poke your hand if you are digging for your keys or something. It's only an issue on some pants, and I mostly carry clipped to my waist, where it's a non issue. But still.

thanks for the advice guys,, I noticed the point above the spyderhole in the photo's.
it was the only thing I didnt like..I can smooth that out in the machine shop at work.

I don't have a centofante 4, but I do have a couple of centofante III's. Different blade profile, but a great little knife. The clip hasn't been very durable on one of them, but otherwise they're great knives. I'm wearing one right now.

Or just move the clip to tip up carry (for right handers). That's what I did.

My lock is not stiff nor have I had issues with the clip. Not saying the other posters haven't, just that I haven't.

Try removing the clip.
Every Centofante 3 / 4 that I have handled has had this stiff action. I believe that the clip causes this problem. If you remove the clip or install clip tip up the action becomes very smooth. At least that is the case on my 3 and 4.

Buy the Centofante 4. My all-time favorite Spydie. They have been discontinued for 2010, so you can find some screaming deals as folks close them out.

My latest Spydie purchase.

Got a killer deal. About 65% off the usual from a well-known online company.

It's in the mail...
