About the Centofante C25, I was wondering if anyone could help me with these questions.

-What years was it made?

-Was the aluminum handled version a limited edition?

-What are the chances of finding one in NIB condition?

Thanks for any info you may have.

The aluminum handled version was how it originally came. This is a knife from the early 1990's I belive. Later Spydero released a G-10 version with a gold or silver button depending on when it was made.

I have seen the C50 NIB a few times over the last year at gun shows and at www.beckscutlery.com . I haven't seen a C25 NIB in a while. I have not seen an orginial Centofante NIB in a loooonnngggg time. :)

I have been a Spyderco collector for about 7 years now. It's really funny because there are 3 Spyders that I have always up till now ignored. 2 of them are the C-25 & C-50. I just aquired a C-50 in a trade and wondered why I had overlooked one fine quality blade. To me the C-25 and C50 both are reminiscent of the older Benchmade Phil Boguszewski Spike models. I have always ranked the Boguszewski Spikes some of the most practical, useful knives I have ever had. These long lost Spyders are capable of the same work. I am now looking hard for a C-25 & C-50 both that I can put in my EDC knife arsenal.

In that era of Spyders there were just a bunch of classics that I think people are just now taking a hard look at. The G-10 handles really do this particular knife justice

Just a little tidbit on the C25's. The standard aluminum scale C25 with the black or green karaton inserts came with clips that matched the finish of the aluminum scales. The blue scale models had polished stainless clips and the G10 version had a flat black clip. All were done with Hitachi ATS-34 bladesteel.

Thanks for the "fact sheet" on the C-25 Razz. You know it's really funny because actually there are really more than 3 knives I am just now getting to know from that era. Another one I have recently aquired was the Shabaria. I still don't think it wins a beauty contest but it does fit me like a glove and I just love the blade configuration. The C-50 will probably end up being the one I will carry. I have a 1997 Spyderco dealer's catalog that I got on ebay and it has a bunch of them old classics. Man I bet the C-25 & C-50 both would be awesome with VG-10 blade steel ;) .

JD,

The C50's and the C25's are really neat knives. Here's a couple of other items of interest related to same:

I'd be curious to hear about some of the history behind why the C50 had 2 locks.

Another tidbit I'm remembering about the C25 was that it was not easy to do the final assembly on for some reason. Maybe somebody else could expand on this because I don't remember the details.

Say Razz there is one more item about those models that I stumbled across over the weekend. I was going through some of my old Spyderco dealer's catalogs. I actually made 2 interesting discoveries. First of all with the C-25 & C-50 on the very last year they made them they switched blade steels. On the final year of production they made them with 440V instead of ATS-34. Also on another old Spyderco classic they did something similiar. On Spyderco's Tim Zowada knife which the earlier models was made with AUS-8. Well I found out that on the last year of production they switched over to VG-10. I'll bet that Zowada with VG-10 is one very tough blade. I just accidentally stumbled on to those over the weekend. I would love to have a C-50 with 440V for an EDC :)

JD,

Ya know .. I never thought to check the bladesteel. I've got 4 C25's left (3 blues and 1 G10). The blues are all ATS-34, but the G10 has a sterile blade with the dual lock configuration. Go figure. My PE Zowada must have been from the last year of production as it's got the VG10 blade. I no longer have a C50, so I can't comment on those.

JD Spydo: I found a place offering the C25 & C50 for sale. Let me know if you're interested and I'll email it to you.
