John H Davis is in Fruitland Park: http://custom-knifemaker.com/

This is one I own that was made by him. It's 52100 and probably my best hunting knife:

Wow that was a fast reply! Yeah I was curious. Im really getting into this and would like to set up a contact list of local makers so if I ever had a question I could find local answers. Mainly supply questions. I hate waiting for things in the mail so if I can find local steel suppliers thatd be rad.

Local steel suppliers with get you "local" steel, which is another way of saying don't bother unless you can go by someplace like Sheffield Supply in person..;)

Hi

I know this is an old thread but I would be interested in Custom FOLDERS made by makers in Florida.

I found a Maker Called Stan Wilson, amazing knives.

Any other Recommendations?

Thanks

It's not easy to find a Stan Wilson folder. I've been looking to find a plain, black Advisor but any available folders from him are way out of my price range.

Stan's next door neighbor, Todd Fischer and his son Frank have both been known to turn out a high end folder or two.

Cliff Parker makes amazing folders and is in the greater Tampa area (just north).

I am Happy to say I have A Todd and Frank Fisher, Still need to find a Stan.

I know Reese Weiland, is not Central but still a Floridian, had a chance to talk over the phone last Friday, a nice guy!

I’m in winter haven fl and am trying to get into knife making, I am wanting to start with a 1084 flat stock and go the stock removal route but cannot find steel anywhere. Any suggestions??

Please look at the date before posting. Many people here don't like it when you post on a thread that is 2 years old

Welcome Brianguimond. This thread was started 7 years ago and has been brought back a couple of times. Look at the first post date and other dates throughout the thread before posting on an old thread. It is usually better to start a new one unless there is specific information you are referring to in the old thread.

The stickies has a great search engine to use for finding things like your question about steel. There is also a lot of info for suppliers and sources. I recommend a new person glance through all the stickies so they know where a lot of answers to future questions can be found.

Most folks buy their steel from one of the knife parts and materials suppliers or from New Jersey Steel Baron ( a knife steel supplier). The list of knife suppliers is long, but a few of the main players are Alpha knife supply, USA Knifemakers, Jantz, Texas Knife supply, K&G, and Pop's.

You also should look up the Florida Knifemakers Association.
