Got a friend looking to learn a little about making knives, stock removal mostly. He would like to visit a maker/shop to get a little headsup on what he needs in the way of tools, materials, etc. Reading only goes so far (as most of you know).
He lives a little west of Hattiesburg, MS.

I would be glad to forward contact info via PM.......not a scammer or a phisher......so that he might contact you directly.
I don't think he's looking to become a damascus/samuri sword maker, just wanting to get started with something simple. Needs a little exposure and guidance.
Thanks
Carl Rex

(He'd be welcome at my shop but it's a bit to far to drive)

Carl, there are several around Jackson, MS, including Terry Vendeventer, who's an ABS Mastersmith. Also, Donovan Phillips is in the Jackson area as well, I believe. There are several others as well, but I can't recall their names right now. I'm about 90 miles north of Jackson, myself.

Terry Vendeventer is an excellent teacher, and I'm out south of Hattiesburg. There are several other makers in the area as well. He's welcome at my shop any time, just check to make sure I'm there with the way I work overseas.

Thanks fellas, I'll be passing this info along to him shortly. I knew you guys were out there, heck, there's a knifemaker behind every rock if you look hard enough. I know we have plenty around here.

Hay Crex,
I'm about 30 miles S of Of H'burg, in McHenry [49 South].
Here most all the time And working [or playing ] on knives. Mostly stock removal but if the mood strikes me just right, I do some forgeing. Do my own HT also. Very unconventional, very old school.
Welcome anytime, just let me know when. Jerry

Jay Dees is a little east of Collins, MS. He's got a nice shop and has been helpful to me.....

Thanks fellas, I've sent him the link to this thread. I imagine he will pm you for contact info.
I told him that knifemakers were like snakes......for everyone you see there are 3 or 4 you never see. Thanks again.
