Ok, anybody here know of any decent hiking areas in Central Texas? I live in Austin right now and the city is getting to me. Town Lake is boring and I want somewhere within an hour or two to do some more serious hiking.

Good water Trail in Georgetown, 16 mile loop. Find it at Texas hiking.com

Perderanles state park, about an hour west on 290. McKinney Roughs state park, about an hour east on hwy 71

Have you ever been to Barton Creek Greenbelt? If you are in Austin it is probably less than 15 minutes from you at any time.
It can get a little crowded sometimes, but mostly you would never know you were in the city. Caves, cliffs, sometimes really good swimming holes. There are numerous acces points throughout the southwest part of the city. Also in the city, Bull Creek Park and Mt. Bonnell (bushwack down around below the observation deck, there is an incredible overhang cave and you probably won't see any other people)

Other stuff within an hour or two of Austin, Colorado Bend State Park (Caves, waterfalls and river), Pace Bend Park(on lake Travis), Canyon of the Eagles(on lake Buchanan), Bastrop State Park(lots of pine trees), Hamilton Pool(BEAUTIFULL but often crowded). There aren't a lot of large areas, but you can find places to get away. I'd say the hiking area across the river at Pedernales (don't ya mean PERDanales?) State Park is the least trafficed and if you go at the right time you might find some tasty morels. Enchanted Rock is incredible, but usually wall to wall people and for some reason the meanest park Rangers I have ever met.
