Hi guys,

I'm off work till Tuesday and am looking for people to go camping with tonight (Monday tge 19th). If there's anyone in Central Utah (Utah county or surrounding area) and want to come, post here or email me. I know it's short notice, I normally have something Monday night but right before bed last night I found out that it was cancelled so I want to get out into the mountains to do something.

If I can't find anyone to go camping with, I'll do a BBQ at my apartment. Thinking Steaks, Potatoe Salad, tossed green salad, chips and stuff. Thats assuming that I can even find people to come to it. Worse case, I BBQ some Chicken thighs I have and eat that with Fried rice and other good left overs.

Up Rock canyon about 30 to 50 minutes is a nice flat spot that some people camp at. There's also Johnsons Hole up Provo Canyon above Canyon Glen Park thats about a 30 minute hike.

So please feel free to email me for contact info if you are interested in doing something this evening/night in the Provo area. Thanks,

Heber

After talking with some friends and family, it looks like we will be having a BBQ At my place this evening at around 6:00pm. It's pot luck, I'm providing chicken, my sister is doing Potatoe Salad and my brother is probably bringing some Turkey. Anyone that wants to come is still invited.

Probably a little warmer.
I heard a rumor there's still snow up on Timp. :)

Denis, there's still tons of snow up Timp. If we had gone camping it would have been below the snow line. Rock canyon has some good places if one is willing to hike in.

You should come to the BBQ, it's going to be taisty!!

Man, I have prior commitments and can not go. My wife would kill me if I skipped out. It was so nice over the weekend and we are supposed to get weather heading our way Wednesday, cold and wet. It has been in the 70's.

Heber,
Burned my tongue 40 years ago on a field trip to BYU one winter. Left lasting mental scars whenever I think of Provo... :D
Lehi's the only place we drop down off the freeway in passing through your valley nowdays, the peace & serenity of lunch at Cabela's overcomes all.

But, thanks for the invite, hope y'all had a good time.

Maybe we'll catch you another time!

That sounds fun.
I might beable to make it

Hey Jeepin, nice to see you there. Have fun with the cotton balls. Let me know if you need some help with the fat wood.

Sorry about your tongue, though you really should let that effect you so long. ;)

I will be there in spirit, Utah is a bit far for me ;)

Oh come on, it's only on the other side of the country.

Well, the BBQ was a success!! My brother and sister and their familys showed up, some friends from the complex and some other friends too. After dinner and roasting marshmellows we sat around the little fire for hours talking about future and past campouts, shared some hot chocolate and played with vaseline soaked cotton balls and various firesteels. It was a good night!

Heber,
It was a horrifying freak encounter with a chestnut just off-campus, something I never saw coming. I was young, I was innocent, I was totally unprepared. I've never entirely recovered, and the memory haunts me to this day.
Whenever I even think of BYU, my tongue starts to swell, and chestnuts are (by later court order) not allowed within 50 feet of my mouth.

Such things take time to get over, and I may quite easily bear the emotional scarring for the rest of my life.

Had it happened today, I'd probably be a wealthy and well-adjusted man. But- that was back before Ralph Nader had included chestnuts on his Consumer Watch List (I didn't know about 'em), lawsuits had not been invented yet (I couldn't sue anybody), and I had no access to qualified health professionals (which left me the way I am now).

Glad you had a good time, though.
Catch the right three days in late July, and you might be able to do your campout up on Timp afterall. :D

It has been many years since I camped in Rock Canyon...back when a rifle was OK to have up there. Wish I could go.

Tod, thanks for the pictures! Those are some good shots. I'm thinking we should do a gathering of the Utah BF.com members sometime. Think you might be up for something this summer or fall?

Don, I wish guns were still allowed up there. Would be nice to carry my Ruger Single Six on some hikes for plinking and squirrel/rabbit hunting. To many people are scared of small fires and guns these days. Though I know some places that are deep enough up the canyon one can get away with it (and it's still legal there).

I would definitely be interested! It would be fun. I know I could learn a lot from everyone. It would be cool to include some of the Utah knife makers.
