Anyone have experience with these?

Saw that there was a recall at one point?

Any first hand info would help. :)

I have shot one before. Really nice piece. If I had the money to snatch one up, I would defiantly go after one.

I have no first-hand experience, but when I was thinking about getting one a year or so ago, the reviews I read (probably in the "Galil & Valmet Discussions" in the "AK-47" section on AR15.com) were generally not favorable. Which is why I have no first-hand experience. The reviews I've read lately have been a little more favorable.

I think that in general Century has a reputation for spotty quality, and on these in particular, there was an issue with the receivers on the early models (serial numbers beginning with GAL). On the other hand, while Century rifles are reputed to be assembled by trained monkeys, some of those monkeys do a pretty good job and produce a rifle that's good to go out of the box. And if a bad monkey put yours together, you can keep sending it back until they get it right.

Or so I have read.

Agreed. Just got an email back from someone who does custom builds, including Galil rifles. He said to stick with a more common platform. Amazing that someone would be that honest.

Perhaps another Armalite would be in order......

Now you're talking something I actually have experience with. There's nothing wrong with Armalite (I have several), but if you're going to go the AR15 route, I'd seriously consider picking up a stripped lower, a good lower parts kit (CMMG/Stag, for instance), and a Bravo Company (or other quality manufacture) upper and put one together yourself. It's not at all hard to do and you can get a better gun for less money. It's probably not the best way to go if you're considering resale, but if it's something you're going to keep, you can have it your way from the ground up.
