Hey, who makes knives with a ceracoat besides Fällkniven, i really like my F1 but ruined the handle pretty bad while trying to reshape it

I think most coatings are just epoxy powder, right? They seem so thick and ugly in comparison, does anyone have any data on the wear resistance of that stuff

Strider (SKI) makes some knives in cerakote finish. good luck finding them though. every once in a while they pop up on various websites. Sweet knives.

I tend to prefer a DLC coating over Ceracoat even though the Ceracote may prevent oxidation on parts on the blade steel. I can't say that I particularly like Ceracoated knives.I would rather have a uncoated carbon or stainless blade than a Ceracoated one.I really make an effort to preserve and care for my tools. A patina will give the blade some character and uniqueness.

I don't find Cerakote to be a great coating for a blade. It may offer some protection against rust, but if it will show wear in a short amount of time.

All righty
How does this DLC look in comparison, can you give me a few examples

I have a Mini Grip in M4 with the "transparent" Cerakote. I'm told it peels easily, so I don't carry it much. The M4 blade is to die for, but my harsh use environment as an office ninja keeps it at home instead of in my pocket.

On the other hand, I have a Spyderco Military (among others) with a DLC blade coating. It's black and a matte finish. Nothing much bothers the DLC coating. Whatever I've done to it can usually be washed off, whether it's the Military, the ZT 0350, the ZT 0200, the Spyderco Tenacious, etc. DLC is awesome.

All I can add to this is that I have probably half a dozen guns with cerakote finishes, and it is truly impressive. It actually took quite a bit of shooting through my Sig Scorpion 1911 to wear the cerakote down to metal on the "rails" milled into the slide. After seeing how well it wears on a moving/rubbing part like that 1911 slide, I would have zero hesitation buying a knife finished in Cerakote, and that goes for frame and blade.

I have used various ZT knives with their "DLC" coating, and they generally look like hell after you cut a few boxes up. I avoid their DLC blades whenever possible.

One blade finish I do find impressive is PVD...much slicker, so it tends not to wear as much. In fact, I looked at a set of PVD coated wheels for my Jeep not too long ago.

I thought most "dlc" was, in fact, PVD done by IonBond. Don't remember where I heard that. I do know that IonBond does a lot of different steel coatings.

You're correct - IonBond does a ton of different coatings. The DLC (diamond like carbon) coating we typically see on ZT knives is the same as Sig Sauer's Nitron finish on their guns (and Sig has admitted that IonBond is a supplier). That type of finish is a significantly rougher finish than the PVD coating that I have on some of my other stuff. ZT's DLC finish, and Sig's Nitron finish, is most likely what IonBond calls CVD (using a chemical/heat application process), whereas their PVD coatings are done by a line-of-sight coating process (making it possible to mask certain areas that you don't want coated).

I bought a fixed blade made by Robert Hankins. Hard use blades and mine is Cerakote and I've seen him sell others. If a hard use fixed blade is what you are wanting I'd highly recommend his knives.

Yeah, benchmade has been doing this for a while now, my contego folder with the coating on it last forever. The more I use it the slicker the coating gets, and I've been trying to use that cpm m4 on everything!

Gerber Cerakotes a tactical pen, a tomahawk, and a dagger.

Cerakote the company filmed their own testing on the abrasion resistance of Cerakote compared to some other coatings. Apparently, the test is an ASTM standard. The test is against common firearm finishes, not knife finishes, so there's no data for DLC and TiCN.
