does anyone do this to their spydies? any info would be great! I use a dry lube at the moment, but on my non stainless spydies im still a bit scared to carry them. I worried much more about the pivot area on the blade rusting than the main part(that can be wiped down much easier).

I prefer to keep my knives as is in case I need warranty work for whatever reason. There are lots of people feel a carbon steel knife will rust by just looking at it. As long as you keep your knife clean there should be little to no problems. I know there are people in California and Florida that have no issues with rust.

I live less than 100 meters from the sea and humidity here is seldom below 80 percent. I often clip my GB IWB when I'm working around the house and I do sweat a lot(and I eat spicy food). I haven't had any rust issues so far.

I have a number of Bark River fixed blades, they're made from A2 tool steel, and I've used those submerged in water for irrigation work many times. I personally use Eezox for corrosion protection, I just wipe it on with a patch like I'd use on the exterior of one of my rifle barrels. You might not want to use that if you're doing food prep with your knife, but if it's a utility blade the stuff works great. The protection it offers is hard to believe. Mostly, just make sure you rinse them off in clear, clean water when you're done working with them, and ensure that you don't get water trapped down in the works somewhere it might sit and stew for a while.

I would like to know how this coating might hold up on a clip. The black on my Military clip got all chipped up in short order so now it's bright and shiny. Anyone know if you can get these coatings in a faded blue jean color? :)

That's a fairly good representation of what's available, might be worth calling up KG directly and seeing what colours they make.

Here's their site section for ordering the material, it has a large pull-down list of colours available.

I've had good luck with GunKote on my firearms, it seems to be far more resistant to chipping and scratching than most finishes. The surface requires some preparation before you apply it, though, for best adhesion.

I recall a member posting pics of a military that he coated dark earth brown ( I Think ).
He had his own shop.
Anyone else rember who this was?
