Cerakote and Heat treat

Hi,

Recently returned from a camping trip and found quite a bit of rust spotting on one of my blades. I've looked into Cerakote and found that it can be applied (by a professional) for pretty low cost.

However, I understand that the application process includes 30 minutes in an oven at 250°F. Question: Would this destroy/harm the knife's heat treat?

Thanks

It's possible that it could ruin the heat treat. A heat treat-friendly option is Duracoat. It can be applied yourself or by a professional and doesn't need to be baked on.

IF the times and temperatures you stated above are accurate, there wont be any harm to the heat treatment. Realistically, anything up to 350 farenheight for an hour wouldnt hurt, but knowing the steel and heat treatment would be ideal.

In that case the tempering temperature is almost certainly well above those used for baking the coating. The recommened tempering temperature is over 900 F.
