Hey there! I just joined about a minute ago and wanted to ask a question, I have a coldsteel recon 1 tanto edge, 50/50 serrated folder. I was wondering if it's best to go with cerakote or if any other coats were better or if folders should just not have any coat at all! Thanks!

As8 and XHP (the 2 steels that knife is available in) are both stainless, so a coating is not necessary unless you are concerned with reflected light. You can Cerakote just about anything you want though. It's not a permanent solution though as it will flake off with use.

I say go for it. Brother RevDevil is right about it being unnecessary - but its also sorta fun. It will start to wear eventually, but that makes it even more cool.

I will post pics later tonight, but I just had the handles on my xhp R1 cerakoted in FDE.. It looks great with the black blade. Yes, the costing my be for looks only, but nothing at all wrong with that...

It's not reflection I'm worried about (the recon has the black coating to prevent the reflection) More so is it okay with the materials, if I may ask how long will cerakote last on my knife with regular use? like will it last a day or a year or many years? and mine I am getting in a kryptek yeti style!

It depends on how you use it, but I would guess that it might last for years, with wear and possible chipping on the high traffic areas in maybe weeks or months. So hard to say. But what you can say with clarity is that it will wear and chip sooner or later. Check out how Nutnfancy's duracoated guns look. They have plenty of dings and chips. You just gotta get in the mindset that the wear is going to look sick, and then don't sweat it.

True, it will look pretty sick :) I'm quite excited to get it coated, sending it off next week (going on a camping trip this week so I do need it)
