I ordered belts from Pop's for my surface grinder (36 grit) I usaually get the cheaper ones, he told me to try the 977 belt, I order one @ $6.50 a pop. Man what a differences. With a new belt I can take off .005" a pass, with the 977 I was up to .009". The belts are designed to be run fast and at high pressure. I just have to see how long the last. I surfaced ground a billet in half the time.

Hey, IG, when that belt seems to get dull, turn it around. That stuff shears, of course, to stay sharp. Seems the leading edge of the crystal will round and dull, but the rear side stays sharp. That way you'll get a bit more cut from it.
Flip it around a few times before discard, save a buck maybe.

I found that the 977's outlasted the Klingspor(blue) cubic zirconia belts over 10-1. Aluminum oxide about 20-1. I use the 40 grit, and found it left a scratch pattern about like a 80-100 grit would.
Great belts.
I've got some 967's(yellow)belts hanging on the wall, ready to try next.:D

Man...you guys should have seen ole Fitch behind the grinder at the Moran Hammer-In...

He went through 3 of the cubitron belts on one knife! Said he didn't care, because it's just a fraction of the cost of the knife anyway, and he absolutely hates old belts. But I didn't expect him to be switching them on the same knife!

IG, Plus when your through use it on a smaller or larger wheel and it like starting with a fresh belt all over again...I have used the 967 for about year now with the advice from POP and I think they are worth every penny.....:)

MIKE! 967's are the best i've found for slow grinding, with the Norton ceramic hogger a close second. i don't care for the 977's i have to run the hardcore faster than i like on bevel grind's.

I love the 967,I have ground three knives with one belt and it seems like it will last for another one,I am using 80 grit. Before I start my grind,I put a bevel on the edge,so when I when I turn my grider on
half the grit is not on the floor.the 977 I use for profiling and they really hold up.
